The 20-time state champion Cary wrestling program plans to turn over the reigns to Taylor Cummings, who was an ACC champion his redshirt freshman year at N.C. State University.
"I want to keep [the success] going and put my own footprint on it as well," said Cummings, 23, who has no prior head coaching experience but comes from a family full of wrestlers and teachers. His father is a longtime wrestling coach in Pennsylvania. His brother and uncle also wrestled at N.C. State.
Cummings would replace Jerry Winterton, who stepped down after 26 seasons in March. Winterton guided the Imps to 19 state championships and a 97 percent winning percentage.
