Broughton boys soccer faces Green Hope

Bookmark and Share

Broughton, which has won the NCHSAA 4-A boys soccer championship the past two years, faces Green Hope, one of its top challengers, Friday at 4 p.m. in The Brittany in Wilson.

Throughout the preseason, Broughton coach Izzy Hernandez said he was going to field a nice team, but that Green Hope was loaded.

The Caps defeated Green Hope 2-1 in overtime in the state semifinals last year.

"I don't know if I have ever seen a great team return as many players as Green Hope is," Hernandez said.

Green Hope coach Andrew Chadwick said his club should be the best that he has coached. The Falcons face an extremely tough schedule. They play Leesville Road today, Broughton Friday and 4-A runnerup Greensboro Grimsley on Tuesday.

The Brittany Willis Memorial Scholarship Soccer Showcase has attracted 58 boys soccer teams from all over the state.
