Xavier Nixon, a two-way line star for Fayetteville Britt, has been named as the Gatorade North Carolina football player of the year.
Nixon is the top-ranked offensive lineman in the country, according to Scout.com, but also has starred on defense for the 13-1 club. Britt plays at home Friday night against Wake Forest-Rolesville in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-AA semifinals.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Nixon is scheduled to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the 2008 Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas. He is known as an offensive tackle, but he has played eight games at defensive end this season and has 35 tackles, inlcuding nine for losses, one sack and two forced fumbles.
"He is one of the best I've ever seen," said Garner coach Nelson Smith, whose Trojans lost to Britt in the second round of the playoffs.
Nixon has not announced his college choice.
