Athens' Bae wins golf award

Sarah Bae, a sophomore at Athens Drive High, is the girls 2010 N.C. Junior Player of the year by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association and the Carolinas Golf Association.

The award recognizes one girl and one boy who hae had the most successful year in amateur and junior golf tournaments on the local, state, regional and national levels.

Bae won 10 individual junior titles in 2010, including the CGA's Dogwood State Junior Championship. She competed in 21 junior events and was among the top seven finishers in all but one event.

Bae was seventh in the N.C. High School Athletic Association championships last season and helped Athens to a second-place finish.

David Womble of High Point Wesleyan Christian was the boys winner.
