Wake Forest moves into AP Top 10

Wake Forest High, ranked No. 1 in the area by the N&O, moves into the AP state rankings.

New NCHSAA lacrosse conferences for 2014 (1st draft)

The N.C. High School Athletic Association has released its first draft of this spring's boys and girls lacrosse conferences. Since less than a fourth of NCHSAA schools have either program, new conferences are made bringing together those that do. Finalized conferences will be released later.

Among the proposed changes, most put schools have been placed within groups more similar to their natural conferences:

N.C. High School Athletic Association releases list of 100 Male Athletes to Remember

As part of the celebration of the centennial of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, the NCHSAA has released the fourth and final list of its “100 To Remember” series.

The list is a who's who of legendary North Carolina native athletes including Triangle natives: Webb Simpson (Broughton), Anthony Barbour (Garner), Vic Sorrell (Cary and Clayton), Rodney Rogers (Durham Hillside), Julius Peppers (Southern Nash), Jackie Murdock (Raleigh Hugh Morson), Pete Maravich (Broughton), John Lucas (Durham Hillside), Albert Long (Durham), Scott Hoch (Broughton), Josh Hamilton (Athens Drive), Bob Gantt (Durham), Brad Evans (Durham), A.J. Davis (Northern Durham) and Roger Craig (Durham).

The list of “100 To Remember: Male Athletes” highlights one hundred of the top athletes in NCHSAA history. A special committee, including school administrators and coaches from across the state as well as sports media, put together the list in a series of meetings.

To help you visualize what this year's basketball playoffs might look like, we redid last year's 4A East bracket with the new formula that was explained in today's N&O. The reason we didn't do more? The majority of teams in our coverage area fall into the 4A and because it is sort of pointless to do much more than that given how the conference have changed since last year. You will see teams on these projections that are now 3A.
