Track and field meets highlight area's young talent

Triangle track and field fans might just see some young stars of the future over the next 10 days.
 
Local-level Hershey’s Track and Field Games meets are nearly completed throughout the region, and the top finishers advance to district competition in hopes of reaching the state meet and even the national championships.
 
Cary’s local-level meet will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Buffaloe Road Athletic Park, located at 5812 Buffaloe Road, Raleigh. For information, contact Kirk Matthews at 919-469-4363 or kirk.matthews@townofcary.org.
 
Cary then will host the Triangle’s district meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday  (rain date June 17) at Mills Middle School and Park. Contact Mike Sink at 919-380-2781 or mike.sink@townofcary.org.
 
In Rocky Mount, the district meet takes place at 5:30 p.m. today (rain date Thursday June 16) at Rocky Mount High School. Contact Lynn Driver at 252-972-1160 or lynn.driver@rockymountnc.gov.
 
In Greenville, the district meet is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday (rain date June 21) at J.H. Rose High School. Contact Troy Smith at 252-414-9429 or tsmith@greenvillenc.gov.
 
The state championship meet be hosted by the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department at 4:30 p.m. June 24 at Meredith College on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.
