The summer season splashed into action Tuesday evening as the Tarheel Swimming Association (www.tsanc.org) began its six-week run.
The dual-meet competition among recreational teams from community pools throughout the Triangle has added three new teams for a total of 78, TSA president Bob Goudreau said this week.
The number of swimmers - ages 18 and younger - should surpass 10,000 for the first time after passing 9,700 last year, Goudreau said.
TSA meets are scheduled for Tuesdays from June 15 through July 20, but some may be postponed to Wednesdays because of thunderstorms.
Team scores from Tuesday meets that are reported by coaches or meet directors to Goudreau will be printed in The News & Observer's Sports scoreboard on Thursday mornings. Postponed meets appear on Fridays.
Teams may post individual results from each meet in the online Play! Recreational Sports Report. Go to share.triangle.com, register (it's free) and log in. Then, go to the Play! page at share.triangle.com/play. Beneath the team photos is a green bar titled "News & results." Within that bar, click "Post." Follow the instructions, and be sure to include "youth sports" and "recreational sports" and "swimming" among your tags.
