Competitors from the Raleigh School of Gymnastics in North Raleigh spent a lot of time on the podium, building a collection of gold, silver and bronze medals at the Region 8 Prep Optional Gymnastics Championship held April 29-May 1 in Palmetto, Fla.
Raleigh School gymnast Nhyla Bryant, 9, of Raleigh also represented the state on the North Carolina State Platinum Team. She earned individual first-place honors on bars (9.700) and second place all-around.
Raleigh School’s Platinum Level team took first-place honors in the all-around, on vault (28.350), on beam (28.500) and on floor (29.150).
Individually, Platinum team members Riley Holt, 11, of Raleigh earned first place on vault (9.625), Theresa Evangelista, 11, of Zebulon took first place on bars (9.550) and Claudia Money of Wake Forest earned first place on vault (9.375) and on floor (9.850).
In the gold-level competition, Bailey Hodge, 12, of Raleigh took first place on the vault (9.350) and tied for first place all-around (37.500), and Yasmine El-Khoury, 10, of Wake Forest won the floor (9.425).
In addition to the first-place honors, Raleigh School gymnasts also produced numerous second- and third-place podium finishes:
Riley Lockwood, 11, Raleigh, third in bars, third in beam;
Holt, second place, floor;
Evangelista, second, all-around;
Hodge, second on bars, tie for third on floor;
El-Khoury, second on bars, second all-around, tie for third on vault.
The Platinum Level championship team consisted Bryant, Evangelista, Holt, Money and Lockwood, along with Carolyn Judy, 13, of Raleigh, Delaney Olexa, 10, of Wake Forest, Kyra Steward, 11, of Raleigh and Elizabeth White, 11, of Raleigh.
The Raleigh School Prep Optional gymnasts are coached by Chuck LaCombe of Raleigh and Meagan Pendergraft of Raleigh
