Registration is under way for the fifth annual City of Oaks Marathon and Rex Healthcare Half Marathon, which will take place at 7 a.m. Nov. 6 and will feature a new start-finish location.
Competitors can register at www.cityofoaksmarathon.com for the 26.2-mile marathon and the 13.1-mile half marathon.
The new start and finish line will be at N.C. State’s Bell Tower on Hillsborough Street, according to a news release from presenting sponsor Raleigh Running Outfitters and the race committee.
The new site offers an easy-to-find landmark, and “the area can also support a great postrace runner festival with lots of food, music and family-friendly events,” new race director Ron Wahula said in the release.
The full course remains to be finalized, but the marathon still will include a run into downtown Raleigh and a scenic trek inside Umstead State Park. The half marathon course also goes through downtown.
Also new this year will be a marathon relay and a kids competition.
Last year's event drew more than 3,200 participants and raised $50,000 for several charities.
