Revenge could be a theme when Greenville's Lauren Herring plays her match today at the 43rd annual Easter Bowl Spring National Championships tennis tournament.
Playing in the girls 18s ITF quarterfinals, Herring could be seeking a bit of revenge against an opponent, Lauren Davis, who, in turn, might be seeking a bit of revenge against Herring in the match at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Herring defeated Davis 6-4, 6-0 in the Easter Bowl 14s final in 2007, and Herring recently lost 6-1, 6-0 to Davis in a U.S. Tennis Association Pro Circuit event in Atlanta.
Herring, seeded No. 9, advanced to today's match with Wednesday's 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over No. 8-seeded Brooke Bolender of Delray Beach, Fla. No. 1-seeded Davis, from Gates Mills, Ohio, defeated No. 14 Elizbeth Begley of Houston 6-4, 6-2.
"It should be a really good match ... ," Herring said. "She beat me pretty bad last time, so I'm definitely hoping for a different result this time around."
Herring and Davis also were part of winning doubles teams on Wednesday.
