Greenville's Herring advances at USTA junior tennis tournament

Lauren Herring of Greenville on Wednesday advanced to the round of 16 in the girls 18s division of the sixth annual U.S. Tennis Association Spring International Championships being played at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Seeded No. 12, Herring advanced with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Jade Frampton on Wednesday, according to an event news release.

Herring, who is considering Georgia, North Carolina and UCLA among her college choices, also is part of the top-seeded doubles team with Grace Min of Lawrenceville, Ga. The pair won their first-round match on Wednesday, 6-4, 6-2.
