Bookmark and Share

The Durham Screamin' Eagles and the North Raleigh Bulldogs knocked two California teams from title contention Saturday at the Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Screamin' Eagles Division II Junior Pee Wee team defeated East Bay Wranglers of Oakland, Calif., 14-0. Durham will play Yorba Linda (Calif.) Bulldogs on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs Division Division II Junior Midget team defeated Lee's Summit (Mo.) Titans 16-13. On Tuesday, North Raleigh will play the Far West Jets from Phoenix, Ariz.

The Eagles and Bulldogs are part of the Triangle's Consolidated Football Federation, which is part of the Pop Warner Mid-South Region.

Other Mid-South teams, both from North Carolina, that played Saturday didn't do as well. Winston-Salem Rams Division II Pee Wee team lost to the Coconut Grove (Fla.) Knightriders 32-8, and Kernersville Raiders Division II Midget team lost to Northeast Chargers of Baltimore 43-18. Winston-Salem and Kernersville will play consolation games on Tuesday.

Today, two other North Carolina teams will be in action. The Union Road Jaguars will play the Southside Cardinals from Texas in a Division I Junior Pee Wee game, and the Oak Ridge Colts will play the Detroit Dolphins in a Division I Midget game.

In today's games involving other Mid-South Region games, the Virginia Beach (Va.) Mustangs play the Canyon Hills Cowboys of California, and the Virginia Beach Mustangs Division I Pee Wee team will play the Sweetwater (Fla.) Hawks.

The cheer and dance competition, which includes seven Triangle teams, starts on Monday.
