A little more than two weeks remain for young tennis players in western Wake County to expand their skills and their educations.
April 16 is the deadline for applications for the Western Wake Tennis Association Scholarship Program. Elementary, middle and high school students can apply for scholarships for summer tennis camps, and graduating seniors can apply for academic scholarships toward their first year in college.
"Some of these awards overlap and complement the outreach initiatives to underprivileged and ethnic parts of our community," according to the association's Web site, which also includes a variety of information on tennis instruction and competition in the Triangle and around the state.
Available scholarships include $250 awards for elementary school and middle school students, $500 for high school applicants and $1,000 for graduating seniors.
Applicants must live in western Wake in zip code 27502, 27511, 27512, 27513, 27518, 27519, 27520, 27523, 27526, 27527, 27539, 27540, 27560 or 27592.
