Cary, Raleigh boys win golf titles

Bookmark and Share

One of the perks of living in North Carolina is rarely having to stop playing golf. Tournament series continue over the winter, and hardy golfers turn out to compete.

Among the winter golfers are the juniors who compete in the Eastern Junior Golf Association, which visited Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington on Feb. 6-7.

Andrew Fowler of Cary and Eric Bae of Raleigh were among the champions crowned on Sunday at the invitational event. Bae shot rounds of 81 and 75 for a 156 total and a victory in the boys 12-13 division, and Fowler shot a 77-74--151 to win the boys 17-18 championship.

Wilmington golfers won the other two divisions, with Charles Ellis (80-78--158) taking the boys 14-15 title and Emiley Pagrabs (87-89--176) winning the girls 12-18 title.

The EJGA, which started play in 1999, plays its tournaments August through May throughout the Sandhills and Eastern North Carolina.
