Big-time badminton is returning to the Triangle after almost 70 years.
The U.S. Senior National Championships will be played March 24-27 in Morrisville, hosted by the Triangle-based N.C. Badminton Club in conjunction with USA Badminton and the Southern Badminton Association.
Competition in the fast-paced racket sport will take place at NetSports, 3717 Davis Drive in Morrisville.
The tournament will be the first USA Badminton-sanctioned national championship event in the Triangle since 1942, when the sixth annual U.S. Badminton Championships drew approximately 300 players to Duke University in Durham, according to N.C. Badminton Club representative Sandeep Kalelkar's announcement Sunday night.
Didn't know the Triangle had a badminton community? You'll find open play at least three locations: NetSports in Morrisville, Bond Park in Cary and Zx Training (formerly Peak Fitness) in Durham. Learn more on the N.C. Badminton Club website.
