A wedding planner's challenge

Bookmark and Share

Even if yours is not a royal wedding, it's still a challenge to bring together every little detail for the big day. Imagine the challenge of putting together the Dorssers weddings on this date in 1956. Not one wedding, but six took place on the very same day in a single ceremony.

Seems Mr. Leo Dorssers, a farmer in the small village of Blenheim Ontario, couldn't spare the time from his farm to attend the weddings of all his children who were wanting to get married, so he arranged for them all (two sons and four daughters) to marry at the same time.

Following the ceremony, the six brides, all in identical wedding gowns, were presented with the village council's gift of six steam irons. They had also received an all-expenses-paid trip to New York  from the Columbia Broadcasting System to appear on Garry Moore’s game show, "I've got a Secret." Their wedding was even featured in movie newsreels.

Mr. Dorssers said he was in no hurry for the weddings of his four unmarried children (there were 15 in all), estimating that this wedding had cost $800-900.

It may be appear glamorous

It may be appear glamorous to become a Wedding Planner just as Jennifer Lopez portrayed in 2001 with her role in the "Wedding Planner" film. But the duties of a wedding planner may be something that is far from being just glamorous.
