Kevin Wolff dropped out of the mayor’s race two weeks ago. But he’s still circulating a flier painting Town Council member Mark Kleinschmidt as a gay rights activist who has no children and doesn’t own a home in Chapel Hill.
The flier emphasizes that Wolff and Town Councilman Matt Czajkowski, another candidate for mayor, do have children and own homes and are not gay rights activists.
Kleinschmidt shot back Tuesday, saying the flier reveals Wolff as the fringe candidate. "He shows how different he is, I think, from the people of Chapel Hill by highlighting those facts,” Kleinschmidt said.
Kleinschmidt sold his condominium on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard last year after renting a townhouse off East Franklin Street with his partner. Kleinschmidt said they have not purchased a home together because his partner is still trying to sell his house near Wake Forest.
“It’s where I want to spend the rest of my life,” he said. “This is my hometown.”

If Mr. DeConto had done half as much 'investigative' digging on Bill Strom's mysterious exit as he did on Mr. Cz's ancient history personal finances, we'd undoubtedly know why Strom chose to leave the citizens of Chapel Hill clamoring for his head and why Mayor Foy is so adamant to replace him before a new council (and most likely, new mayor Mr. Cz) steps in.

Now, he's back in the running, but he's pointing out that Kleinschmidt is gay, as if that had any bearing on anything. This guy is seriously crazy. I hope he gets some help.

Did you talk to Kevin Wolff and confirm that he is the one distributing this flier? Or are you guessing?
Sounds like a cheap prank on Kleinschmidt's part to me, please provide your source for this being a product of Wolff.
Or, retract your statement. Either one will work for me.

Tue, 10/27/2009 - 18:13 — TerryDiddleReally pathetic to think this kind of dirty tricks is happening here in Chapel Hill. Smearing and denegrating candidates like this is inexcusable - it just demonstrates how low somebody will go to hurt someone else.
Unfortunately, publicizing this kind of sleazy behavior only gives more attention to an issue that is often erroneous to begin with.
Let's hope we've seen the last of it - in flyers, in newspapers, and in blogs.
