Here's a look at today's local headlines:

TRUE TAR HEEL: John Snipes was known best for the spiffed-up hearse called the Heelraiser he took to athletic and other events to express his love for Carolina. He also was Santa to those who attend the Hillsborough Holiday Parade each year, where we met him and took this photo. Dave Hart reports in recent years Snipes was also fighting crippling MS. A memorial service will be held today.

MEET ROB HILL: If you've ever seen Rob Hill in the gym, you've probably watched his abs routine astonished. But the Chapel Hill personal trainer has also been living with a secret, which he shared with staff writer Katelyn Ferral in recent weeks because that weight had become to big too bear.

PRINCIPAL NAMED: Orange High School has a new principal, Jason Johnson, even as the old one, Armond Hankins, fights to hold onto his job. Correspondent Brooks Dareff reports the latest on the shakeup at the Hillsborough school.

Plus, former CH Mayor Kevin Foy gives Charterwood a failing grade, My View columnist Julie Sneed Moore turns 50, and has mixed feelings about it, and a lot more.
