Northern Orange mobilizes against airport

Add a third group to those citizens rallying against a UNC airport coming to rural Orange County.

So far we have reported on the groups Preserve Rural Orange and Orange County Voice. The first group is fighting to keep an airport out of Site H in White Cross. The second opposes an airport anywhere in rural Orange, where they are promoting an economic vision based on locally grown food.

Now a group of residents in the Coleman Loop Road area of central/northern Orange County is beginning to organize against a future general aviation airport possibly coming to their neighborhood.

A 2005 university study picked sites in White Cross, in southern Orange, as the best sites for a new airport. But state Rep. Bill Faison has suggested a better location might be the Coleman Loop Road area, which is why the residents are concerned. Faison inserted language in the airport authority bill that limits the panel's search to Orange County so that any benefit from a future airport would come to the county. Read our two recent stories about this here.

Look for updates on this new group and on the airport issue this week on our blog and in the N&O and Chapel Hill News.

north orange against airport

Since north orange does not want the airport, and the business that it will bring, maybe . The airport should be located in another county where it would be appreciated some day business will return to normal and the airport will be benefical to any close by area .many corporations today use private planes today for more effective schedules. and many executives tend to live a few miles from airports
