Here's a look at the top stories in today's Chapel Hill News:
Correspondent Colin Campbell breaks an important story by examining the driving record of the bus driver involved in a fatal campus accident with a pedestrian last month. James Willie Orr, who was fired after the accident that killed Valerie Hughes Oct. 27, has had 10 traffic accidents since 2001 -- eight of them while driving a bus.
Two major projects are on hold -- one indefinitely. The university's consultants on Carolina North, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, says the Innovation Center, the first building on the future research campus, is on ice in the current economic downturn. The county commissioners, meanwhile, have put off deciding where to put the solid waste transfer station until three new commissioners come on board next month.Â
