Former Chapel Hill Mayor Rosemary Waldorf found an unlikely name on a petition opposing her latest project: her son’s.
Waldorf says she hadn’t talked with her son about the hotel
she’s trying to bring to Southern Village. She's working with SoVill developers D.R. Bryan and John Fugo as the
project manager for the hotel, which goes before the Chapel Hill Town
Council Monday night.
Ben Waldorf. her son, is a medical student who lives in SoVill. The hotel would rise on what's now a parking lot across from Weaver Street Market.
Many residents there say
the hotel is too big, though Rosemary says they have made several changes to the project in response to neighbors' concerns. You can read more about that in Sunday's Chapel Hill News.

IT'S TIME FOR THE NEW GENERATION
Sat, 11/15/2008 - 18:36 — ChapelHillGuyLet's hope that the conscience of the new generation of voters who were responsible for changing the guard in Washington will remain involved in local politics.
Everybody who doesn't have a personal stake in this debasing proposal should rise up and put an end to this sort of money-grubbing maximization to the detriment of the public space.
I salute Ben Waldorf for registering his personal preference for open space. I'm sure he didn't know that his mother was selling out the residents of Southern Village when he signed the petition,
Still... he reacted to this idiotic proposal the same way that any reasonable person would.
Ben Rocks!!
