The county's economic development department updated commissioners on their efforts to bring more business and jobs to the area.
Steve Brantly, the county's new economic development director led a presentation detailing the county's strides in tourism, agri-business, the arts, and business recruitment and retainment.
Here are the highlights:
-The county opened the Piedmont Food and Agricultural Processing Center, a food, business incubator, last month, 45 applications have been approved and 12 are pending.
-Developing websites and brochures to promote Orange County's agriculture tourism opportunities like the Breeze Family Farm incubator on Walnut Grove Church Road.
-The Orange County Visitor's Bureau expects 1,200 new jobs to be created by 2012 as a result of increased visitors to the area.
-Hotel year-to-date revenues are up 10.8 percent and occupancy tax collections is up 6.53 percent
-The county art's commission is creating an online calendar of county art events
-New large-scale building projects will be listed under a new county website, www.GrowthInOrangeNC.com.
-Continued outreach with the N.C. Department of Commerce and UNC-Chapel Hill.
