Chapel Hill Zorba's has moved to Durham

Tags: OrangeChat

The longtime Chapel Hill restaurant Zorba's Grill, which had operated on Elliott Road in the Village (Whole Foods) Plaza, has reopened in Durham.

Owners Louis and Iris Andros have opened at new restaurant at 4716 N.C. 55.

It is serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. only until Sept. 1, when it will start serving dinner.

Now, if Friesha could just find a new location for Queen of Sheba, the old Ethiopian restaurant on the Greenbridge site. Boy, I miss her lentils...

No Pah!

My wife and I ate at Zorba's tonight - it was dreadful. If you want my advice, take $30 out of your wallet and put it in your pocket where it will be safe, then punch yourself in the mouth. I can assure you that this will be more satisfying than the meal we had tonight and it will save you some money.

On the positive end, the hummus was really good.

On the other hand...
My wife ordered the Spanakopita. The spinach tasted canned and the whole thing was dry and tasteless. Her Greek Green Beans also tasted like they came from a can. Not good.

I had the Chicken and Beef Kabobs with Greek Potatoes. The Potatoes were very dry and way over cooked. The meat on the kabob was also terribly dry, chewy and leathery. It tasted like it had been cooked earlier in the day and then reheated in a microwave.

Also disappointing was the hospitality. Our server was fine - but we were the only ones in the entire restaurant (7:30 on a Fri. night). Several folks came out of the kitchen, including one person who I suppose was the manager on duty. None of these folks once came over and thanked us for coming in or asked how the meal was.

Obviously we wont be going back - and I don't recommend anyone else going for that matter. It's a shame because I was really excited about having a Greek restaurant nearby and was hoping we'd found a diamond in the rough.

I ate there tonight-- I

I ate there tonight-- I think it's their first day for serving dinner. What a disappointment! The food wasn't good, but at least the un-generous portions helped make up for it. I was looking forward to having a good Greek restaurant in the neightborhood. Guess we'll have to keep waiting.

If the Queen of Sheba is looking for a spot, Durbar 54 a little further down Hw 54 closed down. Save the woeful diners of south Durham! Send good restaurants!

Ate There once

I took my family to Zorba's once. There was not a single tasty or authentic dish brought to the table.

I have spent thirty years in the restaurant business and have eaten in many excellent Greek restaurants, but this was certainly not one of them.

People looking for a quick and tasty Greek / Mediterranean meal should check out the very casual and inexpensive place off 15-501 in the Plaza with Home Depot. It's next to Music and Arts, across the parking lot from Total Wine.
