2nd fatal shooting in White Cross

Bookmark and Share

Too soon to know if there is any connection between two fatal shootings in the last three days in White Cross, the small rural community west of Carrboro out N.C. 54.

The county's 911 center confirmed this morning that the Sheriff's Office responded to a fatal shooting on Gemena Road Monday afternoon. The Sheriff's Office just sent out a release saying two men have been charged in the killing. We're posting that update online now.

On Saturday, the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting on Butler Road, just a short distance away. That victim died later at the hospital. A suspect has also been arrested in that case.

That's easy

"The investigators are trying to determine what the relationship was among Harris, the wounded man at the hospital and the Ramirezes."

...of investigation reveals the WRAL knew days ago that neither person involved lived at the Butler Road address: The accused murderer is from Chapel Hill and the Victim from Chatham County.

http://www.wral.com/news/news_briefs/story/4746732/Chapel Hill, N.C. — Orange County authorities have charged a Chapel Hill man with murder in a Saturday night shooting.

Eric Jermaine Bradshaw, 30, of 8015 Sandberg Lane, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond Monday in the Orange County Jail.

Deputies responding to a reported shooting found Juan Barbee Young, of Jones Ferry Road in Chatham County, in the driveway at 3004 Butler Road. The shooting occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Young died of his wound late Saturday at UNC Hospitals.

Investigators said they determined that Young, Bradshaw and another man were arguing, and the fight escalated into gunfire.

Where was the other shooting you're referring to? Are you referring to the *two shootings* on Gemena? Gemena is *not* in White Cross, but I guess that doesn't really matter, since its "out that way" somewhere……read the last paragraph.

http://heraldsun.southernheadlines.com/orange/10-1124124.cfmCHAPEL HILL -- Orange County sheriff's investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened on Gemena Road on Monday night, and every time they turn around they seem to get a new surprise.

At 5:45 p.m. on Monday, the 911 center received a call that a person had been shot at 2120 Gemena Road. Gemena Road is located a few miles northwest of Carrboro off Jo Mac Road.

When deputies arrived, they found a man who had been shot and killed on the back deck of the house, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The victim was identified as Thaddeus Jerrod Harris, 24.

Deputies arrested two men who lived at the house and charged both with first-degree murder. They are Ronnie Ramirez, 30, and Steve Ramirez, 23, both of 2120 Gemena Road, Chapel Hill, and they are being held without bond.

On Tuesday morning, investigators learned that another man had been shot at the house.

The man, in his early 20s, whom the sheriff declined to name, had a gunshot wound, but when he went to UNC Hospitals for treatment Monday night, he made up a story about how and where he had suffered the wound. It wasn't until Tuesday morning that the truth came out and the Sheriff's Office learned there was another victim/suspect.

"We're trying to interview some other people who were supposedly with him," said Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass.

"They were at the house. There was an altercation. Shots were fired, and people got hurt," said Capt. Larry Faucette.

"It was a shootout; that's what it was," Pendergrass said.

The investigators are trying to determine what the relationship was among Harris, the wounded man at the hospital and the Ramirezes.

"We're trying to figure out if the people knew each other, and if they had been to the house before," Faucette said.

But each time they've turned over a stone, they've gotten a new surprise, Faucette said.

"Right now, it's in the digging stages," Pendergrass said.

The Monday night homicide on Gemena Road was the second homicide in Orange County in three days. They are not related, Pendergrass said.
