Olympics Xing

Xing (pronounced shing or sing) means journey in Chinese — fitting for this blog, which is all about the journey of the U.S. men's basketball team and N&O staff writer Luciana Chavez at the 2008 Beijing Games. She is covering her first Olympics and making her first trip to China. Check in here for Olympic news and for Luci's impressions getting to and being at the Games.

USA Basketball: Practice update

USA coach Mike Krzyzewski said Wednesday, after three days with his Olympic team, that Dwyane Wade looks healthier than he did playing hurt in 2006.

"He's been the mos t pleasant surprise of our three days because you didn't know what to expect," Krzyzewski said after Wednesday's training session in Las Vegas. "He looks better now than when we played at the World Championships."

USA forward LeBron James didn't practice Wednesday, a precaution to make sure he's healthy. James suffered a mild right ankle sprain on Monday. He did shoot around. Krzyzewski said James could play for a gold medal game.
