Olympics Xing

Xing (pronounced shing or sing) means journey in Chinese — fitting for this blog, which is all about the journey of the U.S. men's basketball team and N&O staff writer Luciana Chavez at the 2008 Beijing Games. She is covering her first Olympics and making her first trip to China. Check in here for Olympic news and for Luci's impressions getting to and being at the Games.

Krzyzewski starting rumors about Rubio

BEIJING — By the time Saturday's mano-a-mano batalla grande between the USA and Spain at the Beijing Olympics begins at 10:15 a.m. on the East coast, you should be salivating for a long look at Spanish guard Ricky Rubio.

Even USA coach Mike Krzyzewski had to get in on the appetite whetting in advance of the game.

"I hear he wanted to go to Duke," Krzyzewski said on Friday at the U.S. practice session at Beijing Normal University.

The 17-year old plays, seen here in a highlight reel playing international junior ball, with men many years his senior on the Spanish national team. He can score and has a flair while creating chances for others.

This is his first Olympics and Saturday will be his first real exposure on American television against American stars like Jason Kidd and Chris Paul.

just so you know

haha well
i heard thtat coach K was glad that ricky isnt going to UNC, at least

Everyone *doesn't* want to go to Duke.

When is a recruiting violation not a recruiting violation? When K does it!

I'm sure he "hears" all kinds of things from the voices in his head, but that doesn't make them true.

If you two think that Coach

If you two think that Coach K was serious about him wanting to play for Duke,  then you guys are not the brightest bulbs in the box. Coach K doesn't go after every single high profile recruit (whether it's in the nation or not) just as much as all high profile recruits don't want to play for Duke because they all wouldn't want to play in his system. Get over yourselves.
