In 1961 when I first worked for the NC House, most of the Legislators lived at the Sir Walter. Fayetteville Street was a place where you could walk down the Street and visit with most of your friends. I suspect much of the Legislation of that time was discussed and decided in the Hotel before it ever got to the floor of the House or Senate. It was a time when lifelong friendships were made and Legislators of both parties respected each other. Now most members live in apartments and are scattered all over Raleigh so they really don"t have the opportunity to forge the strong relationships they did in the 60's. Some things don't improve with time and it is a shame our Representative and Sentors missed all this fun and fellowship!
