North Carolina's political establishment lauded longtime Insurance Commissioner Jim Long at his funeral Thursday as family members and colleagues said he was always about looking after the regular guy.
More than 800 people, including dozens of firefighters sprinkled among elected officials and state workers, heard stories and laughed even while mourning Long, who died Monday at age 68, only a month after finishing up 24 years as commissioner.
