The first Youth Explosion 2009 on Saturday, August 8, 2009 in Raleigh. Hundreds of people packed into Worthdale Park on Cooper Road in Raleigh for the event sponsored by the Youth AWAKE, a program of the Family Resource Center of Raleigh. There was music, comedy, a talent competition, free food from local restaurants, and a message of abstinence for local youth.

Damarcus Harris is my son, who won first place!!!!! He is an exceptionally talented young man that is very compassionate about his music. I appreciate the Absti-Idol competition giving young talented people like him and others a chance to showcase their talents. So many times in this society people focus on the negative, but this truly was a blessing and a opportunity for us to see that our young people are very much capable of doing great things and the best is yet to come!!!!!!!!
