White Oak Greenway section closed for a few days

One downfall to sharing an easement with a sewer line (as is frequently the case with our greenways): When there's a problem with the line and heavy equipment is called in to remedy the problem, the trail generally is closed.

Noooooo!

That's the case with 0.3-mile stretch of the White Oak Greenway in Cary, at least for the rest of the workweek. I discovered this truism of public works on a ride early this morning. Just after passing under NC 55 westbound, with 1.9 miles to go to trail's end, I encountered an orange plastic fence across the trail and those dread "Road Work" signs.

Joe Godfrey, a parks planner with Cary, tells us it's a temporary situation involving a pump station downstream. "It's my understanding that it will be closed through the end of the week and will reopen for the weekend, weather permitting."

The White Oak, if you're not familiar with it, is one of the Triangle's longer greenways, running from Fred Bond Park west to Green Level Road, with a short interruption near Davis Drive. Find out more about it here.
