Joe Lugiano, assistant director of the Umstead 100 Mile Endurance Run held last weekend — literally: 6 a.m. Saturday through noon Sunday — has a by-the-numbers report on this, the 15th running of the race.

Jill Perry broke the women's record for the Umstead 100 by 20 minutes. Thus, the smile on the face of someone who is running 100 miles.

248 — Number of runners, a record (there's a cap of 250).

15 hours, 5 minutes, 3 seconds — Winning time for the 100-mile event, by David James of Trumbull, Conn.

9 minutes, 3 seconds — James's per mile pace.

74 — Age of oldest woman to finish the race, Barbara Macklow of Bellingham, Wash.

29 hours, 46 minutes, 11 seconds — Macklow's time.

16 hours, 2 minutes, 27 seconds — Time of the fastest female, Jill Perry of Manlius, N.Y. (a new course record for women).

That's just a taste. You can find all the results, maybe not today, but soon, on the Umstead 100 Web site.
