I working on a book about backpacking in North Carolina. For accuracy purposes, I thought it would be good to finally buy a GPS, which would help me better pinpoint water sources, campsites and other key things backpackers like to know about. And I'm sure it will — if I can just figure out how to use the dang thing.

I have a Garmin Colorado 300, which I've taken on one trip so far. On the trail, it seemed to work dandy. It was after downloading the info and trying to work with it that I've run into trouble. For instance, when I tried to move the route information into a specific file, it failed to move the tracking points (it only transferred the waypoints I had marked). Also, I can't seem to make a printout. (I queried the online support staff and got an answer that appeared geared toward a much different computer than I have. A Commodore 64, perhaps?)
So I need help. Anyone out there fluent in Garmin who might help me answer a question or two?
