Ski report for the weekend: More terrain opening

We've been keeping you apprised throughout the week of what the weekend will look like in the Southeast high country. Here's a quick recap.

Winterplace (West. Va.): Opens Saturday with 3 lifts, 7 runs.
Wintergreen (Va.): Reopens Saturday, with the beginner Upper and Lower Dobie runs and intermediate Eagles Swoop.
Timberline (West Va.): Opens Saturday with six trails and $1 lift tickets (too bad it's an 8-hour drive).
Snowshoe (West Va.): Expects to have 25 trails open this weekend.
Ski Beech (N.C.): Goes into the weekend with 5 trails and three lifts operating.
Sugar Mountain (N.C.): Goes into the weekend with 10 trails and 4 lifts running.
Appalachian (N.C.): Goes into the weekend with 6 trails and both of its terrain parks open, and all five lifts running.
Cataloochee (N.C.): Goes into the weekend with 9 runs and 3 lifts operating.

In parting: Good as the conditions have been here, check out these photos posted by "KneeDeep" on skinc.com. They're from the Loveland Ski Area on the Continental Divide in Colorado. And as you look at them, as the drool pours forth as you gawk at the powder, keep in mind that Loveland has the coldest ski lifts known to man.

I'm going backpacking this weekend. Will be back with the next morning ski report Tuesday.
