Trying to figure out your week? Perhaps we can help with a look at ski conditions for the next several days.

Ski Beech should be sunny up top later in the week

Let's start at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia, the most likely destination for a day trip from the Triangle. Wintergreen is 100 percent open, with all 26 runs and four of seven lifts running. The mountain reports a base of 40-60 inches. Snow is in the forecast into Wednesday, with about 3 inches expected. At this point, Thursday should be a stellar day on the mountain, with clear sky and a high around freezing expected. Think about taking the bus.

Moving to the Boone/Banner Elk area, snow and cold weather is also in the forecast into Wednesday. Currently:

Sugar Mountain reports all 20 slopes and six lifts running, and a base of 43-82 inches. Sounds like a good time to ski the tip top of the mountain, where you'll find some of the Southeast's most challenging terrain on Tom Terrific, Boulder Dash and Whoopdeedoo. Short, but lots of fun. Full-day adult lift ticket is $39, not too bad considering the conditions ahead.

Ski Beech. Beech is reporting packed powder and a base of 35-65 inches, although not all of the mountain is open. Most conspicuously absent is the Southern Star run off the top of the mountain. (The Oz run is also closed.) Expect conditions to get better throughout the week; the area is under a winter storm watch that could bring a half foot or more over the next couple of days. You'll get your best mid-week bargain at Ski Beech: Tickets on Tuesdays are half price ($19), Wednesday tickets are $35 and women ski free on Thursdays (that'll be $38 for you guy types).

Appalachian Ski Mountain. At Appalachian, the temperature was 19 at 9:44 this morning, the high today was expected to hit 19 and the low to drop to 19. How's that for consistency? We're guessing the skiing/riding will be likewise over the next few days as natural snowfall and continued good snowmaking conditions should keep Appalachian well covered. Appalachian's mid-week ticket is $33 for adults, $27 for students, who tend to be especially fond of the mountain.

Winterplace Resort. Winterplace has all 28 of its runs open, as well as its terrain park and snow tubing parks. Winterplace is also expecting snow through midweek. Winterplace may be the easiest resort to get to from the Triangle, thanks to the fact there's divided highway to the West Virginia area's doorstep.

To keep tabs on mountain weather, go here, to check road conditions, try this, and for up-to-date ski conditions throughout the Southeast, may we recommend visiting here.
