The base of Cataloochee early this morning.Â
As forecast, cold temperatures have returned to the North Carolina high country this morning. As of 7:50 this morning, it was 23.9 degrees atop Sugar Mountain, 22 at Ski Beech and, more importantly, it was snowing. It's supposed to snow throughout the day in the high country, according to Ray's Weather, with 10 inches or more in the Smokies (good news for you Cataloochee fans) and 2- to 5-inches in the area of Beech, Sugar and Appalachian. With snow easing out of the area overnight, Tuesday looks like a good day to hit the slopes. (If you're thinking of heading up to Wintergreen in Virginia, which opened over the weekend, it has closed for the week and will reopen this weekend.)
SkiSoutheast.com reports this morning that Dr. Tom Brigham, who was 83, has died. Brigham was a dentist and a professor at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Why is SkiSoutheast reporting the death of an Alabama dentist? Click here to find out.
