Last March, we paid a visit to Girls on the Run, a program aimed at girls 8 to 12 that aims to instill a sense of confidence healthy living in this vulnerable age group. Founded in 1996 by Charlotte triathlete Molly Barker, Girls on the Run has chapters throughout the Triangle. About 500 girls participate locally. You can find out more by going to gotrtraingle.org.
If you're not a girl age 8-12 but like what the group does, you can benefit Girls on the Run at Sunday's 3rd Annual Girls Night In. For $30, you can shop the Nordstrom at Streets of Southpoint in Durham from 7:30-9:30 p.m., drink, eat hours d'oeuvres, listen to WRAL's Pam Saulsby sing the news (or something like that) and help out GOTR. Go here for more.
Earlier this month, we told you about Dr. Howie Shareff's Chair Yoga. "Chair yoga!?" you may have thought. "What in tarnation ... ?"
Here's a chance to find out what in tarnation — two chances, in fact, when Dr. Shareff conducts free chair yoga sessions at the Cameron Village Library, on Mrch 10 and 24, both at noon. Free, but class size is limited and preregistration is required, by calling 856-6707. More on yoga by the seat of your pants here.
