Nothing like the first warm weekend of the year and the promise of wearing a skirt and drinking beer to bring out the race fanatic in folks. Yesterday was the inaugural running of the St. Patty's Run Green 8K in downtown Raleigh, billed as the area's first Race Without A Trace — a race aimed at reducing race-related waste by using electronic waste packets and compostable food and drink containers.

Nearly 900 showed up for the run — "We were hoping for 500," race spokesman Audrey Wilson emailed us a bit ago — many of whom were wearing skirts or kilts, depending upon their XY situation. The overall winner was 21-year-old Ben Vasquez, finishing in 28:41. Fastest woman (so to speak) as Claudin Mangum, a 27-year-old Raleigh runner who clocked in at 32:20. The run benefitted the National M.S. Society.

We're pretty good about telling you about upcoming events here at GOGF, not so at telling you about how they went. Feel free to send us an account of your race/ride/whatever and we'll see what we can do. Pictures are good — send 'em if you've got 'em.
