It was touch-and-go for a while, but it looks like the championship race for the four-race 2008 Leith BMW Triangle MTB XC Race Series will come off at Beaverdam State Recreation Area on Sept. 14. Series organizer Sean Callihan with TORC says protracted and somewhat exasperating negotiations with park officials have finally resulted in this: The top five points finishers in 12 categoires will face off, not on the network's popular and challenging 7-mile South Loop, but on the network's three other, shorter loops.

Though the four qualifying races are now over, the five qualifiers aren't set in stone. In addition to how a racer finished, points are being awarded for volunteering to help the club and to help build and maintain trail. And there's one more workday left, this Saturday.

Checking the standings closely, folks. You may still have a chance.

The best of the 2008 Leith BMW Triangle MTB XC Race Series will battle it out Sept. 14 at the Beaverdam Recreation Area at Falls Lake.
