Need a solution to the the world's climate crisis? Al Gore has an app for that.
Gore has turned his latest book, Our Choice, into a first-of-its-kind app — a digital book that's not just text and photos: it also has documentary footage, a trailer set to a musical score and other audio, video and interactive infographics.
Gore, who sits on Apple's board, teamed up with two former Apple employees, Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris, to adapt the book for iPhone and iPad. The pair created a whole new publishing platform in order to do everything Gore envisioned, which resulted in the creation of Push Pop Press. Gore's book is the company's first project.
The app is selling for $4.99, and Gore is donating all the proceeds to the Alliance for Climate Protection, the group he started in 2006. It is not available to non-Apple device users; it only works on the iOS operating system.
