Nationwide school recycling challenge begins Nov. 15

Bookmark and Share

Want to help your school show its true green spirit and environmental leadership? Step up and get your school to sign up for the Great American Can RoundUp School Recycling Challenge.

In honor of the the 75th birthday of the recyclable aluminum beverage can, the Can Manufacturers Institute encourages you to challenge your school to see how many beverage cans they can recycle per capita between America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) and Earth Day (April 22, 2011).

The institute, which is the national trade association of can manufacturers and their suppliers, is giving away a total of $56,000. Your school could win up to $6,000, plus the value of the cans and the chance to win $50 pizza cards.

Area schools should register by Nov. 15 to be eligible for the School Recycling Challenge at the Can Central website. Once registered, you will be able to compare your school's recycling progress by state, region and nationwide.

Now this is what Americans NEED

Wow, I am liking this initiative.  This is a painless way for schools to add to their coffers, build civic pride, make recycling a more common and accepted way of life for which the end results ARE ALL POSITIVES.  That is true, what comes from this recycling IS ALL POSITIVES.   I hope ALL schools will participate in the spirit it was intended and not turn it into a "fight".  The FIGHT should be about making our home a clean and healthy place to live in. Period.
