Farmers market spotlights grass-fed, pasture-raised farm foods

Bookmark and Share

The Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market will host Grazefest, a celebration of grass-fed and pasture-raised farm foods, on Wednesday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Food lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy festivities that showcase North Carolina's harvest of beef, lamb, pork, poultry, cheese, eggs, milk and other dairy products.

Activities include a chef demonstration by Sariq Agasi of Zely & Ritz, an ice cream eating contest with Lumpy's Ice Cream and bluegrass music by Old Habits. Portia McKnight of Chapel Hill Creamery will show aspiring cheese-makers how to stretch mozzarella. A grass-fed lunch of sausage sandwiches, prepared by Coon Rock Farm, will be available for purchase at $5 per sandwich.

There is also some fun for the kids with an EGGstravaganza, which includes egg relays, veggie trivia, veggie charades and a market scavenger hunt.

Patrons can enter a free raffle to win a copy of "The Grassfed Gourmet Cookbook" or 4 tickets to a North Carolina Symphony's Summerfest concert of choice (including a parking pass).

The Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market is located each week at City Plaza on the 400 block of Fayetteville Street.
