Chatham recycles nonworking strings of lights, other holiday waste

Chatham County is offering holiday programs to recycle trees, wrapping paper, cooking oil and even nonworking strings of lights.

Free tree-cycling will be offered at the Main Solid Waste & Recycling Facility at 720 County Landfill Road on the following dates:

  • December 28, 29, 30 

  • January 3, 4, 5, 6 

  • January 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 

  • January 17, 18, 19, 20

Regular yard debris rates will apply after Jan. 20. All decorations pots and stands must be removed from trees.

Non-working strings of lights can be dropped of in the designated container at the main office at the facility during the tree-cycling dates.

Gift wrap (free of string, bows, ribbons, excess tape, foil or glitter) can be recycled in any mixed paper bin at the collection centers or at the main facility.

Used vegetable oil can be poured into the cooking oil recycling tank at any collection center or at the main facility.
