Chatham to celebrate Earth Day by talking trash

Bookmark and Share

Have you ever wondered what happens to the things we throw away and who pays for it? How about how many local jobs are supported when people choose to reuse, recycle and compost stuff instead of throwing it away?

Chatham residents and businesses will be able to find out at the Lets Talk Trash! Earth Day Celebration at the Pittsboro campus of Central Carolina Community College on April 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This unique event includes exhibits, demonstrations, speakers, children's activities, food and more to inform and entertain residents of Chatham County. Visitors will be able to learn about the variety of options there are to reduce, reuse, recycle, compost and properly dispose of items in the county.

Information will be shared on litter prevention and clean-up initiatives taking place and how to get involved. A paper-shredding service will be on hand to help residents destroy and recycle personal documents securely. Can Guy, Dottie Bottle and Beauty-Fly will also make a special appearance.

The event is coordinated by the Chatham County Waste Management department, Chatham Conservation Partnership and Central Carolina Community College.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Teresa Chapman, Waste Reduction Coordinator for Chatham County at (919) 542-5516 or by e-mail.
