Each Monday, I highlight a few culinary events across the Triangle in the upcoming week or two.
This Thursday is a "Thursday on the Porch" at Foster's Market in Durham. They grill out food and offer beer and wine specials. It might be a nice treat for almost the end of the work week.
For more information, call 489-3944 or go to the Web site.
On Sunday, April McGregor of The Farmer's Daughter Brand will be teaching a class on preserving summer's harvest. The class starts at 2 p.m. and costs $35 at A Southern Season.
McGregor will be demonstrating how to make perfect canned tomatoes, roasted tomato sauce, heirloom apple sauce, oven-roasted apple butter and bourbon figs. It appears as if participants will get to eat pappa al pomodoro (Tuscan tomato and bread soup), balsamic-glazed spareribs with savory applesauce and bourbon rig shortcakes.
To reserve a spot, call 929-7133.
Then on Aug. 29, Herons' Chef Scott Crawford will cooking with seasonal ingredients to celebrate "Abundance Day" at the Western Wake Farmers’ Market in Cary. The market starts at 8 a.m. For more information go the market's Web site.
