Welcome to The News & Observer's food blog, Mouthful.

We hope to be your online guide to the Triangle's vibrant food scene. If you cook, we'll offer recipes. If you dine, we'll share dining deals and the latest news on the restaurant scene. If love to read about cooking, we'll share cookbook and food-themed book reviews. If you love to eat, well, you are in the right place.

The contributors are Greg Cox, The N&O's longtime restaurant critic; Andrea Weigl, the paper's food writer; and Juli Leonard, the staff photographer who shoots all of Cox's reviews and happens to balance the other two's carnivorous bent with her vegan diet. By shooting all the photos for the restaurant reviews, Leonard has visited enough restaurants to know which ones are friendly to those with vegan and vegetarian preferences and will spread the news.

Cox's Epicurean blog will end with this new food blog. But the content you rely on at that blog will move here: those snippets about dining deals called Bargain Bytes; his regular listings of what restaurants are open on holidays, as well as his updates on the Triangle dining scene.

Weigl will use the blog to share information about last minute events and food happenings that she can't seem to get in the paper. Otherwise, she will follow the schedule below:

On Mondays, What's on Tap: a round up of interesting wine dinners, tastings, cooking classes or food events coming up in the next week.

On Tuesdays, we'll share what's piquing our interest out there in the world of food bloggers, especially the ones based right here in the Triangle.

On Wednesdays,  Frugal Feasts, the permanent home of what has been our print feature. Weigl will share a frugal recipe based on what's on sale at the grocery stores, including a cost breakdown.

On Thursdays, we will offer occasional reviews of cookbooks and food-themed books that come across our desks.

On Fridays, a Weekend Warrior's recipe for those who love to cook but do the serious kind on the weekends when they have more time. These recipes are more involved but worth the effort.

This is an evolving blog so please send your thoughts, requests and suggestions.
