Fresca Cafe and Gelato has opened in Waverly Place in Cary

Fresca's owners Jim O'Neill and Alen Subasic had worked in information technology and mechanical engineering respectively. These across-the-street neighbors in Holly Springs had spent years challenging each other to cook-offs before they decided to open this cafe.

O'Neill said: "We were ready to move on and do something for ourselves."

The cafe serves 18 flavors of gelato, sweet and savory crepes, Belgian waffles, sandwiches, coffee and assorted pastries. It is open 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays, and 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The cafe is at 302 Colonades Way, Suite # 109.
