This would be an amazing treat for my coffee-lovin' husband.

The pour-over thing is a bit of a pain but Counter Culture roasts good coffee.  And I don't like the new coffeemaker that Bob bought.

For Dad: A New Ritual : A New Brew

To enter this contest required a bit of research on my part. The instructional video regarding operation of: The Counter Culture Pourover Brewer, available at this link: my.counterculturecoffee.com/ provided assurance that my father, a coffee lover and home-cook (making vegetable soup and chili take up much of some Saturdays) would definitely relish this gift.

It would alter his ritual 5 a.m. amble to his old mechanized coffee maker. Imagine this: He wakes up and instead of grabbing that old plug .....he gets to grab a kettle and heat up water, then pour it slowly over the blend....as it percolates he inhales deeply and pauses.....

Bonus feature...this method of brewing appears to take a bit longer ... so perhaps my mother can catch a few more Z's while dad checks out his new brewer.

Love my morning coffee!

My morning isn't the sme without my 2 cup coffee habit. WOuld love to try this coffee. Thanks!

Need it!

Can't live without my coffee!

Huge fan of local coffee

I'd be delighted to win this giveaway! My husband and I are huge fans of local food and brews and Counter Culture is our coffee of choice. We've just gotten into pour-over and would be tickled to win this package. Thanks, Andrea for keeping N&O readers informed of such delicious, local eats and drinks!!

Coffee!

Fascinating column!  I'm eager to try your way of making coffee.  I use a little Italian espresso maker.  One way to improve your coffee is to use shade-grown coffee.  Not only is it excellent, but it is bird-friendly as well.  The trees providing the shade give the birds a habitat, often in places where there was none before, thus encouraging their growth.  The label needs to say "shade grown;"  pictures of birds on the container aren't sufficient.  You win with great coffee, and the birds also win!

It would be great to try

It would be great to try this...may make me capable of making a good cup of coffee!

I would love to have my own

I would love to have my own "coffee epiphany!"

In search of the perfect cup....

Andrea - I too am always looking for a way to consistently brew a better cup of coffee, but Eight O'Clock coffee? Were you serious? Quality coffee (locally roasted is great) and fresh water are essential as are patience (which can be hard to find before a cup of coffee) and the discipline to stick with a proven routine once it has been perfected. I would love to come to the N&O to pick up the brewer, filters, and most importantly, the Counter Culture coffee!

Yum

Good strong black coffee - yes please!

Counter Culture Coffee

Hi Andrea; I'm one of those who only read the newspaper because someone else left it laying around. But, today I read both (I hope there weren't more!) of your articles. I hadn't seen your work before, but I found both articles interesting and to the point. Even if my comment doesn't win the prize, I'll be exploring the Counter Culture products and food events that you mentioned. Thanks again for writing something that was actually interesting to read and informative too!

Coffee

If I won it would keep me out of Starbucks for a week!

awesome giveaway!!

Counter Culture Coffee

This is an "I'm not kidding" story! This morning while making my pot of coffee I thought  "I am going to write to Andrea Weigl and ask her to do an article on 'coffee culture'"...this year I have tried buying a new gold filter, new paper filters, new replacement grinder, new brand of coffee. Next I tried new measurements. Some directions say one scoop per every 6 oz -and one for the pot if you like it stronger; and others read 2 TBS per 6 oz cup (and of course the pot really is 5 oz cups so this requires some hit and miss calculations). Recently  I heard at the funeral of a family member  to add 1 teas of sugar to a pot of grounds before brewing to take away the bitterness. I was prepared to print out an excell sheet of directions with coffee conversion charts for whoever wakes up first in my house full of Christmas guests. I pick up the morning paper with my newly brewed cup of coffee in hand and there it is... Andrea's article for the truly dedicated coffee drinker. With the right coffee set up - I can just post your article on the refrigerator instead. I am in!

Coffee

I would love to win this coffee gift.

Thanks,

Yes, POUR-OVER Brewers are the BEST!

I have tried a pour-over brewer and loved it! As a person who buys green coffee beans and roasts them at home, I am serious about my daily coffee habit.  All the steps I take to get my coffee just right and delicious sound idisyncratic and unecessary to many of my friends and family -- but you, Andrea Weigl, validated in your article that my quirky tactics are indeed verifiied ways to improve the coffee-brewing experience (I am referring to steps such as consuming the beans within two weeks of roasting, grinding the beans right before brewing, pre-wetting the paper filter to reduce the paper taste, letting your boiled water reduce to a non-boiling state before pouring it over the ground coffee).  Thank you for a great article on this important topic (seriously, I could not do without coffee!)!  I would be over the top thrilled if I won the gift of the pour-over brewer, coffee filters and holiday blend bag of coffee from Counter Culture Coffee.  :)
