Reader Mary Choe contacted me a month or so ago about starting a Raleigh chapter of Dining for Women. I've been remiss in not posting this earlier. Here's what Choe wrote in her e-mail:
"Raleigh chapter of Dining for Women (www.diningforwomen.org), a nonprofit national giving circle. It was founded by Marsha Wallace of Greenville, SC in 2003. Women gather together for potluck meals and then donate the money they would have spent dining out to pre-selected programs that benefit women in need all over the world. Dining for Women has over 135 chapters and has raised over $475,000. There wasn't an existing Raleigh chapter so I started one! I think this is a truly terrific idea and that getting to meet new people and share a meal and learn about the various causes that DFW gives donations to is going to be much more satisfying than simply putting a check in the mail. I am really excited about this new venture and hope to spread the word to as many people as possible."
