So did anyone else watch “The Fashion Show” this summer?
Mind you, it was my only TV guilty pleasure (“The Hills” thankfully ended for good. “Gossip Girl” and “24” were over for the season and “Mad Men” was still weeks away from getting cranked up again.) the entire maternity leave.
For those who didn’t watch, “The Fashion Show” was Isaac Mizrahi’s summer reality show, and one of Bravo’s answers to “Project Runway” (which is headed to Lifetime channel Aug. 20. Two of the designers are from Charleston.)
It took a few episodes, but eventually I got hooked enough to tune back every week. What I really loved was watching how the designers took an idea and turned it into either a masterpiece or a disaster for the fashion show at the end of each episode. Oh, and I loved all the fashion insiders who showed up at the fashion shows each week. Even Betsey Johnson went to one show!
In the end, I was thrilled that Anna won! (Take that, Reco!) She was my favorite from the start because she didn’t seem to want fame from the show, only a shot at advancing her design skills and her line. Oh, and I loved that she cried all the time. Such passion! She kept her head down, didn’t cause trouble and focused on creating her very sellable pieces. Go Anna! I can’t wait to see what happens to her as a result of her win. She seems to have a real knack for knowing what every woman needs, especially with her love for color. I can see her stuff ending up in mid-to-upper-end department store.
As for Daniella, who took home the judge’s prize ... Ugh. I had a love-hate relationship with her. Mostly I liked her pieces (like that steel grey evening gown with the crystals around the neck. Slick!), but it was that cocky attitude of hers that just grated on my nerves only slightly less than Reco’s.
Is there another season coming of “The Fashion Show?” I still can’t figure it out. (Anyone know?) Will I watch again? Probably. Not that it was great television or anything, but I really did love those fashion shows! (You can see photos of the collections from the final six competitors here.)
