Ok, all you Michelle Obama naysayers ... So if you didn't like Michelle's white one-shoulder gown, how did you feel about Jill Biden's red strapless dress?
I just loved it. I think the best part was that she picked a silhouette that showed off a little of what seems to be an awesome body. She's got a great shoulders and arms and she wasn't afraid to let the world see them (and she's 57!). The dress got a little sexy with the horseshoe shaped dip at her bust but then it was back to business with the high waist.
The other reason I liked it? I'm a serious sucker for a red gown, especially to an event like an inaugural ball. It just feels festive and celebratory.
By the way, Lebanese designer Reem Acra made the dress. Acra is known for her amazing gowns, including her stunning wedding dresses, that help women accentuate their best features.

Mrs. Biden's dress
Wed, 01/21/2009 - 16:53 — oldageI am so disappointed in the way money is spent by the political folks when the economy is so bad. Expensive dresses is not all. An interior designer for the White House that Michelle is not really pleased with? Updating the interior to make it more child friendly, etc., etc... Lets walk the walk and cut expenses. There are a lot of folks that just want food on the table for their children. Mrs. Biden looked lovely in her dress that was purchased for a one night affair with enough money to pay someones home mortgage payment. Lets get real. Who really cares about her dress. Sorry. Now we are redecorating our NC mansion to make it more girlie!!!!! Sad!
dresses and furniture
Wed, 01/21/2009 - 18:46 — acreadWould you really not buy a new dress if you were married to the new VP or Pres? Pu-lese. Also, there is much furniture in storage at the WH. Finding something attractively suitable for children is not wasteful - nor is having an interior designer that respects the people's (of the US) house, historical furnishings, etc., and seeing that nothing irreplacable is being used by children. Some benchmarks just must be met. Let's not start off by blaming our misfortune on 4 people who are pledging to make things better.
Spending
Wed, 01/21/2009 - 17:37 — Jen1978The price of a dress or making the White House more child-friendly (which honestly, I do not think is unreasonable--regular parents do the same thing all the time) is not going to save our economy. Sure, there was a lot of money spent. But does it compare to the amount of money spent every month in Iraq? No. If you want to nitpick about politicians spending money on things they probably shouldn't be spending on, let's talk about a pointless war that costs us billions of dollars, not to mention thousands of American lives.
Just saying.
As for Jill's dress, I thought it was gorgeous and very flattering. I love that she chose such a bold color, and I think it looked really nice with her figure. We all gush about how gorgeous the Obamas are, but the Bidens are a pretty nice looking pair too.
